Why Fares May Not Quote

When a fare quote is requested, a search is initiated through the GDS fare database.

The GDS will use fares selection logic to select which carriers fare will be used for quote purposes. This is done by either the carrier with the longest flown sectors or the carrier which crosses the IATA area.

On occasions a valid itinerary/fare may be booked, but the system does not generate an auto quote.

Some of the known reasons where this occurs are:

The interline airline on this fare has the longest consecutive sector, or the interline airlines sector crosses the IATA areas or sub areas.

For example, fares from New Zealand to Europe via the EH - e.g. the fare routing permits AKL NZ SHA (area 3) VS LHR (area 1). When quoting, the fare system will automatically attempt to find a fare filed by VS. As this is an Air New Zealand fare it will not return a quote, unless of course the other airline has also jointly filed the airfare.

If the fare includes an interline airline which is a non-concurring carrier. A non-concurring carrier is an airline which loads and updates their own booking class data for our fares through ATPCO (Air Tariff Publishing Company). ATPCO distribute the published fares to the GDS companies. We rely on the interline airline to correctly file the booking classes for the fare to quote.

Correct interline booking classes can be found on our fare sheets.

Where there is a surcharge applicable in the rule, e.g. Pacific Premium Economy or Business Premier surcharges.

If a fare has been loaded with incorrect data or coding, the system can't read the fare correctly to quote.
