US Secure Flight Information

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is finalising plans for the US Secure Flight Program that requires Secure Flight Passenger Data (SFPD) for all air travellers flying within, into, out of and over the United States.

The following essential information must now be placed in all affected passenger bookings so Air New Zealand can transmit this essential information to the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

  • Passenger full legal name (as per passport)
  • Passenger gender
  • Passenger date of birth

Passenger's can also provide the following data to aid identification:

  • Passport number, if available
  • Redress number, if available
  • NB. A redress number is given to customers by the DHS when they have a similar name to another person who is on their security high risk list. This number is used to ensure that they are not stopped for questioning every time they enter or leave the US.

All airlines must transmit the required SFPD to the TSA 72 hours before flight departure. SFPD data may be collected at the time of making a ticketed booking or at any time up to 72 hrs prior to departure. Bookings made within 72 hours of departure, or any changes made to existing bookings within 72 hours of departure, will be transmitted when the booking/change is made so this essential SFPD must be included when these bookings/changes are made within 72 hours of departure.

Air New Zealand will send automated requests to travel agents for this information for all bookings where required DHS information has not been provided. This message will appear in the applicable PNR with a request for ‘DOCS DATA'. If you receive a request for more information it is imperative that you provide this data. If it is not provided the customer may be denied boarding at check-in.

Travel agents should use existing Special Service Request (SSR) DOCS and DOCO to accommodate the transmission of Secure Flight information. i.e.

  • SSR DOCS is used to store the passenger's Full Name, Date of Birth, and Gender
  • SSR DOCO is used to store the passenger's optional Redress Number
