Passive Bookings

Air New Zealand accepts the use of passive segments only for the purpose of issuing tickets.

Reasons why Air New Zealand will reject passives:

  • No matching booking is held in Carina (the Air New Zealand reservation system).
  • It does not exactly match the customer name, flight details, booking class or segment status held in Carina.
  • Received from the same GDS and/or Agent as the live booking.
  • Made for a redemption or Air Points booking created in Carina.
  • There are more names than the Carina booking.
  • Passive already created in a different booking.
  • The Carina booking shows as already ticketed.
  • Requested as a waitlisted passive.
  • Created for the purpose of unauthorised training or testing.
  • Created for the purpose of accounting or CRS administration reasons.
  • Received from a non IATA agent (9999999).
  • More than one passive booking held.

Note: Group PNRs are exempt from passive checks

If a passive segment is not accepted the status code will be changed to HX or NO and will be returned to the agency accompanied by with an OSI message providing a reason for the non acceptance. In these instances the segment needs to be removed from the PNR.
