Helpful Hints

Before ticketing, special care should be taken with interpretation and spelling of passenger names.

For international travel passport documents need to be sighted and for domestic travellers suitable ID should be produced.

Taking these precautions prior to ticketing will avoid the $50 name correction fee and reissuing of tickets.

Note:

  • Abbreviations of first name(s) are not permitted.
  • Middle name(s) only is not acceptable.
  • Middle name(s) are not required on the ticket, however if middle name is included, ensure that the name is within the name field limitation of 16 letters.
  • Titles are not required on tickets, however if included this must reflect the correct sex of the passenger.
  • Dual nationality passport holders with different names in each passport, PNRs and tickets must match the passport being presented.

PNR Name Fields

Passengers with more than 16 letters in the name field e.g. HAMILTON/THOMASJAMES MR

  • Abbreviate to SURNAME/FIRST NAME MR e.g. HAMILTON/THOMAS MR

Passengers with one letter surname will not be accepted in the Air New Zealand Reservations System e.g. O/CHEN YUNG MRS

  • Add another letter to the surname e.g. OO/CHEN YUNG MRS

Passengers with only one name e.g. SHEN

  • Please create the PNR as per the passport e.g. SHEN/SHEN MRS

Passenger with a hyphenated name e.g. SMITH/KELLY-ANNE MRS

  • Enter name without the hyphen e.g. SMITH/KELLYANNE MRS

Ticketing Infants prior to being born

If the infant has not been born at the time of ticketing we recommend issuing tickets for the adults and e-ticketing the infant once it has been born.

Prize Winners

Tickets issued for prize winners are at a:-

  • TSAVER level across the Domestic
  • HWRKNFS level across the Tasman
  • HWRKPFS level across the Pacific Islands

We do not charge a fee to action the name correction once the names have been finalised. Any subsequent name correction a fee will apply.
