The following definitions have been established to ascertain compassionate travel.
Compassionate Travel
Travel due to a bereavement or unexpected serious medical situation of an immediate family member.
Bereavement Travel
- Travel due to the death of an immediate family member.
- Travel to attend a funeral of an immediate family member.
- Travel to provide support to an immediate family member following the death of a member of his/her immediate family.
- Travel must be commenced within 7 days.
Unexpected Serious Medical Emergency Situation
- Travel to visit/support an immediate family member who is unexpectedly in a serious medical condition. Pre-existing and long term conditions/situations are generally not covered by these guidelines.
- Travel due to the imminent death of an immediate family member.
- Travel must be commenced within 72 hours.
