Children and Infants

We offer discounts to children and infants as follows:

Infants

Infants are defined as children under the age of 2 at date of departure.

An infant is charged at 10% of the adult fare level provided the infant does not occupy a seat, and is held by the accompanying adult.

For safety reasons, an adult can only hold one infant and children under the age of 15 may not hold an infant. If a second infant is travelling, options are:

  • travel with a second accompanying adult.
  • if only one accompanying adult, the second infant will occupy a seat and pay a child's fare level. The additional infant must be restrained in an approved infant car seat.

Note

Interline fares, if an infant turns 2 years old during the journey the child fare level must be charged for the entire journey. Exception: for travel on a service not operated by Air New Zealand please contact the operating airline for the condition of carriage.

When checking in, if there are concerns for safety and comfort of an infant and accompanying adult, a seat maybe purchased at the child's fare level.

Ticketing Infants prior to being born

If the infant has not been born at the time of ticketing we recommend issuing e-tickets for the adults, and then e-ticketing the infant once it has been born.

Children

  • Children are defined as between 2 years of age and less than 12 years years of age, who are accompanied by an adult.
  • Children are charged at 75% of the applicable adult airfare. Children discounts are no longer offered for children aged 2-11 years when occupying a Business Premier or Business Class seat on Air New Zealand long-haul airfares.Exceptions to this are where children discounts are still available on Star Alliance RTW/Circle airfares and Escapade RTW, or Short Haul Business Class airfares.

Children Travelling Alone

Unaccompanied Minors are defined as being between 5 years of age to 11 years of age, or youths travelling alone aged 12 years up to their 18th birthday for whom their parents/guardians have requested Unaccompanied Minor services.
