Important Conditions for Airpoints Upgrades
Air New Zealand Airpoints upgrades are only permitted on a confirmed and ticketed Air New Zealand flight, operated by Air New Zealand. It must be ticketed on Air New Zealand (086) ticketing paper.
An Air New Zealand operated flight is defined by Airpoints as a journey taken on a flight and flight number that is ticketed and operated by Air New Zealand and Air New Zealand Link.
Upgrades can be requested on Air New Zealand tickets except those booked in X class, companion tickets, travel industry fares, or prize/promotional tickets.
Confirmed Upgrade with Airpoints Dollars are only available when the original ticket is booked in:-
- Long Haul flights: U, Y, B, H, or M class
- Short Haul flights: Y, B, or M class
Confirmed Upgrades are subject to the applicable class being available when the upgrade is processed.
The Air New Zealand Contact Centre will not be able to process any upgrades which are booked on code-share flight numbers. For more information refer to Airpoints Upgrades.

Confirmation of Standby and Complimentary Upgrades
Up to 12 July 2012, Airpoints Standby and Confirmed Upgrades will continue to be available for purchase using Airpoints Dollars on Air New Zealand ticketed and operated flights.
Once processed, upgrade requests will only be considered for confirmation subject to class availability and the following parameters. We ask that agents do not request confirmation prior to these parameters.

New Airpoints™ Upgrade Request
Request an upgrade via Airpoints Upgrade Request Form or myairnz.co.nz.
Airpoints will update the PNR with the new upgrade class and HX the old booking class. No further action is taken with updating the ET.
Our Airport check-in staff will update the upgraded sector once the customer checks in for their flight.
Changing an Upgraded Sector
Simply cancel the original upgrade sector, rebook the new flight and then commence the upgrade process for the new flight through Airpoints.
If the new flight is not going to be upgraded, please contact Airpoints to credit the account for the original unwanted upgrade.
Changing the PNR after the Upgrade Request
This can be completed on ETs with NZ operated flights only, if the fare permits then reval can take place.

Reissue when an upgraded sector remains unchanged
When you change a PNR after an Airpoints upgrade has been processed, the ET will be required to be reissued to update the changes.
The ticket can be manually fare built to reflect the base fare, collecting any applicable ADC or change fees and the upgraded sector will in effect be out of class.
Enter an OSI into the booking advising Air New Zealand e.g. "REISSUE AKLLHR* OUT OF CLASS DUE TO AIRPOINTS UPGRADE"
